Interface: Music Connection continued....

Dumptruck Butterlips: you know these guys have fun!
i have spent the morning checking out bands that have been confirmed for Wakarusa. Some i have heard of, some not. It has become increasingly more difficult for me to find new music because i am limited. My 'new' bands are often small, local to somewhere; somewhere not where i am. Most of them do not have much to offer in the way of albums. my first exposure to them is usually a youtube video: dark, poor sound quality, tall dude in a plaid shirt blocking the taper and half the band on stage. If it is too badly done (the camera is facing the ceiling half the time and all i hear are the two drunk girls chatting about diddly), i'll reject it. Ultimately, i am not looking for perfection. i am looking for emotion, vulnerability, truth, music that moves me. If i consider how much time and energy and insecurity and chaos most likely went into the making of the musicians on stage, driving their lyrics, driving them to create and share...well, it is easy for music to move me. i want it to, so it does.
the Infamous stringdusters doing what they do best

Right now, i'm listening to The Infamous Stringdusters play the first year of their own music festival, The Festy. This is who the crowd came to see. They are fun, talented, committed, they came to rock your socks. the best part, for me, about the stringdusters is their stage presence. they move all over the stage and jam with one another. and it Is planned. All of their instruments have cords; they move around each other, seamlessly, and smile and laugh, and have so much fun. it is exciting to see how much they put into a show.  Everyone there took the time to connect to these guys and their music, before they came to festival. If someone hasnt had the chance before, a festival is the best place to connect to new music because the driving energy of those that surround you compel you to get into it as well. It could be the lyrics, or the buildup of the sound, or the showmanship and energy of the players themselves. it could be the sheer ease and enjoyment with which they play that makes you feel alive and part of the vibe being created. music. vibration. and all that vibration is travelling through you and through me and through the people next to us, and back up to the musicians on stage.
Keller can't help but have more fun than any of us :)

it is So Beautiful. and WE are the biggest part of it. These people would not bother with the effort if we didnt. So i do, and i am Never sorry!

The tracks for this blog were chosen because they embody the spirit of connectivity at festival.
